Convenience To Job Most Important In Home Search
Thirty-one percent of homeowners indicated
the primary reason they moved to their particular neighborhood was
convenience to work, according to the latest American Home Census
conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. The national average commute
for workers is 25 minutes one way, which may explain why more
homeowners are choosing to live closer to their jobs. Only 14
percent of the 62,000 homeowners surveyed indicated that being
near good schools was the reason for moving to their current
neighborhood.
The National Association of Homebuilders has
noted that homebuyers are purchasing smaller dwellings in older
neighborhoods, tearing those houses down and building larger ones
in order to be close to work and still the home of their dreams.
